About Allentown

Allentown, Pennsylvania is located in eastern Pennsylvania and is the state’s third most populous city. Allentown was founded in 1762 by William Allen, a former mayor of Philadelphia and Chief Justice of the Province of Pennsylvania, who was the town’s namesake. Allentown holds historical significance as the place where the Liberty Bell was safeguarded from the British during the American Revolutionary War. A shrine and museum sit in the Old Zion Reformed Church, where the bell was hidden.

Allentown is full of things to do and places to see! Coca-Cola Park hosts the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Philadelphia Phillies’ AAA-level Minor League baseball team. The PPL Center doubles as both a sports complex and a concert venue. The Adirondack Phantoms hockey team, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, play in PPL Center along with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, an indoor American football team. The Da Vinci Science Center offers fun for all ages and the chance to learn something too! Many museums are also found in Allentown.

Allentown School District operates Allentown’s public schools. Cedar Crest College and Muhlenberg College are both located in Allentown, with Moravian College, Lehigh University, and Lafayette College all close by for further educational opportunities.
